The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to continue granting petroleum products import licences to Matrix Energy, A.A. Rano and AYM Shafa, provided the companies meet all statutory and regulatory conditions.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has tightened its regulatory grip on petroleum marketers, threatening to revoke the licences of fuel stations caught under-dispensing products to consumers.

The clarification came amid growing concerns over the recent increase in petrol prices and its impact on households, transport operators and businesses across the country.

Justice Akintayo Aluko, in an interim ruling, also barred the regulator, its officers, agents and representatives from sealing, shutting down, restricting access to, obstructing, suspending, disrupting, inspecting, supervising, sanctioning or otherwise interfering with the refinery’s operations pending the determination of the substantive application before the court.
