Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, who were abducted on Sunday, September 6, have regained their freedom.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Adamawa State Command, has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered ₦34 million in cash believed to have been earmarked as ransom.

According to a Police statement endorsed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John and made available to journalists in Uyo, the operation, carried out at about 6:05 am on Tuesday, followed credible intelligence on the activities of a suspected kidnapping syndicate allegedly preparing to strike within the Oron axis.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has warned state governors and lawmakers against distributing motorcycles as palliatives and constituency interventions, saying the vehicles are increasingly being diverted into the hands of terrorists and bandits and subsequently used to facilitate criminal operations.

According to the Federal Government, ICC Pre-Trial Chamber II dismissed the request on September 1, 2026, after determining that it was not properly before the Court and lacked a legal basis.
