CP Baba Mohammed Azare

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, ordered that Inspector Monday Okonta, the officer allegedly involved in the incident, be identified, disarmed, and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Uyo, pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation.

The operations, conducted on Saturday, September 5, 2026, followed directives by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, for the dismantling of criminal hideouts and elimination of black spots considered threats to public safety.

The warning came as the Command conducted a major show of force and confidence-building operation across Uyo, the state capital, on Monday as part of measures to strengthen security and deter political violence ahead of the elections.

Azare gave the charge yesterday, at a symposium on Effective Crime and Court Reporting, organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary, at the Patience (Kemi) Umo Eno Auditorium, NUJ Press Centre, Uyo.
