Swiatek Roars Back To Beat Zheng In French Open 4th Round Match

May 30, (THEWILL) – On Monday, Iga Swiatek, the world number one, survived a fright in the fourth round of the French Open to beat Qinwen Zheng and extend her winning streak to 32 matches.

Swiatek dropped her first set of the tournament when 19-year-old Zheng saved five set points before coming from a 5-2 deficit in the tie-break to win the next five points and claim the set.

Swiatek, though, was jolted into action by the threat of a shock upset, as she responded with a bagel in the second set, in a blitzkrieg that demonstrated why she is the top women’s player.

The Pole continued in that same dominant form in the deciding third set. She kept the teenager sweating to keep up with her strokes before winning 6-2.

The women’s favourite will meet Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals, as the American number 11 seed also dropped her first set but defeated Irina-Camelia Begu 4-6 6-2 6-3.
