March 15, (THEWILL) – World number one, Iga Swiatek, proved her dominance against Emma Raducanu, winning their Indian Wells last-16 match in straight sets 6-3 6-1.
Swiatek secured her spot in the quarter-finals after hitting an impressive 22 winners and converting four of 10 break points. Despite her best efforts, Raducanu was unable to match the quality of the defending champion.
Swiatek’s next opponent will be Sorana Cirstea, who beat fifth seed Caroline Garcia in a hard-fought match. This is a rematch of their last-16 meeting in the 2022 Australian Open, where Cirstea pushed Swiatek to three sets. However, Swiatek has been on a hot streak since then, playing consistently and dominating the court.
Raducanu’s impressive run at Indian Wells included victories over 20th seed Magda Linette and 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. Although she was not able to advance past the last-16, her performance suggests that she will continue to climb the ranks in the tennis world.
Raducanu will now focus on the upcoming Miami Open, where she is expected to move up to No. 72 in the world rankings.
