October 05, (THEWILL) – The CSKA Moscow winger, Chidera Ejuke, was the first to arrive at Nigeria’s training camp ahead of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup double-header qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Ejuke’s arrival was reported on the Super Eagles’ official Facebook page on Monday morning. As confirmation, it provided the following message: “Update! The first player to arrive at camp is Chidera Ejuke. #Team9jastrong #SoarSuperEagles.”
Later on Monday, Ejuke was joined by Kaizer Chiefs’ Daniel Akpeyi as well as Alanyaspor FC’s Chidozie Awaziem as the early birds at the posh Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island camp of the three-time African champions.
This Thursday, October 7, the Eagles will host CAR for the first leg of the Group C double-header qualifiers in Lagos, before travelling away for the second leg on Sunday, October 10.
THEWILL recalls that the Super Eagles have completed two rounds of qualifying and are now leading Group C after initial victories against Liberia and Cape Verde.
Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Terem Moffi have been ruled out due to injury for both matches for Gernot Rohr’s side and Taiwo Awoniyi, the forward who has seen a remarkable resurgence at Bundesliga’s Union Berlin, has been invited to cover the gap, as THEWILL reported.
With victories in both games, Nigeria will move closer to the crucial knockout rounds, which will determine Africa’s five flagbearers for Qatar.
Liberia, the group’s second-placed team, will face the Pedro Leitao Brito-managed Cape Verde in the other Group C match.
