January 07, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Coton Sport Garoua, champions of the Cameroonian domestic league, 2-0 in a warm-up match ahead of the kickoff of hostilities in the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D fixtures.
The match, which featured practically the entire Nigerian squad, was hurriedly organised by the team to fine-tune their tactics, strategies and formation ahead of their first match against the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday, January 11.
Nigeria’s captain and most capped Super Eagles’ player, Ahmed Musa, put the Austin Eguavoen-led side up in the first half, and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze added a second goal in the second half to seal the victory.
The players will practise again tomorrow, as the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Sunday in Yaounde with Cameroon hosting Burkina Faso.
