BEVERLY HILLS, February 16, (THEWILL) G In what appears to be giving tacit support, Ondo State’s Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has described popular Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemi alias “Sunday Igboho,” as a Child of Circumstance.
Speaking on a television programme, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria insinuated that Igboho came to answer a need.
Igboho, who featured prominently in the Ife-Modakeke tribal war in the 1980s and 1990s drew attention in January over the quit notice he issued to Fulani herdsmen in Ibarapa, Oyo State, following their unabated reign of kidnapping, raping and killing of farmers and indigenes of the town.
An online GoFundMe account was floated for him by Nigerians in the Diaspora after arsonists torched his house in Ibadan at midnight.
Akeredolu, Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and who himself had provoked mixed reactions when he ordered herdsmen out of Ondo forest reserves, however, said that the adverse security situation leading such interventions deserved attention by authorities.
The Governor, speaking by visual virtual hookup on a Channels TV programme, nevertheless stated his opposition to citizens’ resort to illegality in the name of self-help.
He said: “Sunday Igboho is a child of circumstance. We must look at the circumstance that led to each of these interventions.
“I for one, I’ve always said that I will not support anyone taking laws into his own hands. That’s why I had to go to Ibadan. That’s why I will go to every other place in the South-West to preach about illegality and that we are against illegal actions. We are not for it at all.
“There are things that we do at times that you have to know what led to them. Those circumstances might not be justifiable, might not be legal, but when you look at it, you’ll know you are a child of circumstance.”
