Sunday Football Preview: Rangers To Return To Winning; Liverpool To Tension United

October 24, (THEWILL) – An exciting schedule of football games awaits fans on Sunday across the UK beginning with a clash in the Scottish Premiership, where the champions Glasgow Rangers, seek to extend their lead at the top of the table.

In England, while the most anticipated tie is the mouthwatering clash of attacking prowess between Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United and Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool, there are thrillers like Brentford against Leicester to be on the lookout for and THEWILL serves the previews below.

St. Mirren versus Rangers – 12 noon
Rangers will be looking to keep their Scottish Premiership lead when they face St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium on Sunday. The hosts, on the other hand, come into this game on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak, having won their previous three games.

St Mirren have had an impressive run, especially defensively, as they have kept three clean sheets in their last three games, which they will hope to continue on Sunday. They had to show off their attacking skills to beat Ross County at the weekend, as the Staggies scored twice in the Scottish Premiership match.

The Rangers’ team was dealt a blow when they conceded a 90th-minute equaliser against Hearts in their most recent domestic match. Although they remained joint top of the table after the draw, they will continue to lead the division with victory this weekend in their bid to retain the Scottish Premiership.

With plenty of momentum behind each team, Sunday will be a tough test for both, who will be looking to improve their standings in the league.

Brentford versus Leicester – 2 pm
Brentford face Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, hoping to continue their strong start to the season. The newly-promoted Bees are currently one point ahead of their opponents, who appear to be on the mend following their dramatic victory over Manchester United last weekend.

While Leicester have conceded another five goals, Rodgers, who has shown a reluctance to manage Newcastle, will be pleased with the character shown by his players during two comeback victories.

The ruthlessness of Patson Daka, who has gone from failing to score to scoring five times in 113 minutes, and the industry of Kelechi Iheanacho in providing assists, were the most pleasing aspects of the two performances.

Brentford are currently in mid-table after narrowly losing to Chelsea last time out, but manager Thomas Frank would have taken nothing but positives from the performance although his side has not won at home in the league since the start of the season, and Ivan Toney has only scored once from open play this season.

West Ham versus Tottenham Hotspur – 2 pm
Only one point separates West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League standings heading into Sunday’s London derby. Despite shaky starts, the teams are currently in seventh and fifth place, respectively, one victory away from a possible top-four place.

Due to the fact that West Ham has been consistently good for over a year, some of their fans will still be dreaming about the vast improvements made under David Moyes.

Nonetheless, the Hammers are on a much steeper upward trajectory than Arsenal and their next opponents, and there is widespread belief that there is still more to come in their latest London derby. Nuno Espirito Santo will be split on whether this match has come at the right time, given the backlash following the Vitesse match.

As THEWILL reported, Nuno had some reason to rest the 11 players who beat Newcastle United last weekend, but a second-string side was not up to the task as they were defeated 1-0. On the plus side, Harry Kane scored his first Premier League goal of the season at St James’ Park, ending a six-game wait.

Manchester United versus Liverpool – 4:30 pm
On Sunday afternoon, two of the world’s best attackers will collide at Old Trafford in a Premier League showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool. Due to their poor form, the Red Devils have fallen to sixth place in the table, with Jurgen Klopp’s side four points behind leaders Chelsea heading into the match.

The pressure continues to mount on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is said to have the support of the Red Devils board for the time being, but such struggles following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane have raised more questions.

Man United has not gone four games without a win in the Premier League since October 2019, but the Red Devils have only two victories in their last seven top-flight meetings at Old Trafford, where Liverpool will look to make it a tenth home match without a clean sheet in the competition.

Klopp’s side currently have the longest unbeaten league run in the top four English divisions, and their thrilling 4-2 victory at Old Trafford last season was their sixth Premier League game without defeat against United, who have not fortified the Theatre of Dreams against attacks from the rampant Liverpool machine especially in Salah’s current form.
