The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar has declared Friday, July 17 as Eid el Fitr day.

The Sultan announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1436 AH in no fewer than 10 states.

Abubakar enumerated the states to include Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Nasarawa Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi and Kebbi.

The sultan said the sightings of the new moon were reported by various Muslim leaders and organisations from across the country.

He said that the sighting of the new moon was duly verified and authenicated by the National Moon Sighting Committee and that of the Sultanate Council.

‘” Consequent upon this, tomorrow Friday, 17th day of July becomes the first day of Shawwal 1436 AH and the day of the Eid el Fitr,” Abubakar added.

He called the Muslim faithful to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria and to continue to live in harmony with their fellow country men.

Nigeria had earlier declared Friday and Monday as federal public holidays as part of the celebrations.
