October 27, (THEWILL) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched a search for Colombian national Victor Julian Duque, offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to his location and arrest over an alleged money laundering scheme involving proceeds from narcotics trafficking in the United States.
Duque, also identified by the alias Victor Julian Duque Tobon, is wanted over an alleged conspiracy to launder money through a network that investigators say moved large quantities of drug proceeds between the United States and Colombia.
The FBI’s Miami field office in a notice published on Monday, is seeking public assistance in locating the suspect, who is reportedly the only person among nine individuals charged in connection with the investigation who remains at large. Eight of the nine suspects have been arrested, while six have been convicted.
According to information published by Colombian media outlets citing the investigation, the alleged network moved more than $54 million in narcotics proceeds from 2021 using fictitious businesses, bank accounts, cash collections and financial transfers designed to conceal the source of the money.
Investigators allege that members of the network recruited individuals to establish fictitious companies and open bank accounts in the names of those businesses.
Cash couriers subsequently collected large sums of money in different locations across the United States and deposited the funds into accounts associated with the companies.
The money was then transferred to individuals and businesses in the United States and Colombia through domestic and international transactions, allegedly making it more difficult for authorities to trace the proceeds to their criminal origins.
Duque is accused of serving as a courier in the operation, travelling from Colombia to the United States to collect bulk cash allegedly generated by narcotics trafficking and channel it into the financial system through accounts linked to the fictitious businesses.
