Subsidy Removal: FG, Organised Labour Resume Negotiation

August 01, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government and members of Organised Labour under the umbrella of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Tuesday, resumed negotiations on the removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

The meeting comes ahead of the planned nationwide protests by the NLC over the recent hike in petrol price and delayed implementation of palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

THEWILL reports that the meeting is a follow-up to the previous one held on Monday, July 31. The parties had adjourned on Monday, to listen to President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast.

The NLC delegation was led by its General Secretary, Comrade Emma Ugbaja, while the TUC was led by its President, Festus Osifo.

On the Government side were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju; Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen; Director, Budget, Ben Akubeze; Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, among others
