February 16, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte will remain in Italy for further recovery time, following a routine post-operation check-up after his recent gallbladder surgery, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Thursday.
The Italian coach missed a few games due to his surgery but returned to the touchline for the AC Milan game, which Tottenham lost 1-0. Conte had earlier revealed that he returned to work despite his doctor’s advice. However, the club has now issued a statement saying that the 53-year-old will stay at his family home in Italy, and Cristian Stellini, his assistant, will lead the team in his absence.
In a statement released on Thursday, Spurs noted that “Health is the most important consideration, and everyone at the club wishes him well,” adding that “Cristian Stellini will assume first team duties.” Despite his health not being 100%, Conte said he was feeling better than before and was recovering well.
The Italian manager acknowledged that the team had gone through a difficult period with several injuries and surgeries in the past seven days, but he emphasized the importance of staying together, creating the right spirit, and working together to overcome the challenges.
With Conte out of the country, Tottenham will hope that the rest of the team can step up and turn their fortunes around. They are at home against West Ham in their next fixture on Sunday.
