March 20, (THEWILL) – Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan, cemented her status as the queen of the 100m hurdles in Africa by winning gold in 2024. All-African Games in Accra, Ghana. The 26-year-old blazed to victory in 12.89 seconds, outclassing the field.
It was a third consecutive African Games 100m hurdles title for the peerless Amusan, who previously won in 2015 and 2019. Her latest triumph underlines her dominance over the event on the continent. Madagascar’s Sidonie Fiadanantsoa took silver in 13.19s, while Zimbabwe’s Ashley Kamangiri claimed bronze in 13.59s.
Amusan’s gold was one of 31 won by Team Nigeria in Accra, putting them second on the overall medal table with 85 medals. The performance bodes well for Amusan ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she will be among the favourites for a podium spot.
Her pedigree including World, Commonwealth and African titles suggests she could become the first Nigerian woman to win Olympic hurdles gold. Having set a world record of 12.12s last year, Amusan is undisputedly the planet’s premier hurdler.
At just 26, more records and titles surely beckon for this Nigerian sprint royalty.
