February 01, (THEWILL) – Southampton left it late but finally found the striker to lead their charge with the signing of Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu.
The 28-year-old stands at an impressive 6’7 and is the leading scorer in Belgian football this season with 16 goals in 19 games. The Nigeria international cost the Saints a reported €20m and will be with the club until 2026.
Manager Nathan Jones praised the signing in a press release, saying: “Paul is a significant signing for us and completes what has been an extremely positive month in terms of recruitment.” He went on to describe Onuachu as “a handful to play against” with a “tremendous record throughout his career and great experience making him a positive addition to the squad.”
The signing of Onuachu is just one of several made by Southampton in their quest to climb off the bottom of the English Premier League table. The club has also signed midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, winger Mislav Orsic, full-back James Bree and winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, with the latter sealing a club-record move on Deadline Day.
With the addition of Onuachu, who will be joining compatriot Joe Aribo in the club, the Saints will be hoping to add more firepower to their attack and move up the league standings.
