January 22, (THEWILL) – After suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss to Mali in their opening Africa Cup Of Nations fixture, South Africa bounced back with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Namibia on Sunday. Goals from Percy Tau, Themba Zwane, and Thapelo Maseko sealed a crucial three points for Bafana Bafana as they got their campaign back on track.
Namibia began brightly but were unable to capitalise on some early chances. However, a penalty award after 14 minutes enabled Tau to open the scoring with an unerring finish into the bottom corner. Zwane then doubled South Africa’s lead just before tripling it when he grabbed his second in the 40th minute.
Maseko then completed the rout 15 minutes from time by racing clear of the defence and slotting the ball beyond Namibia keeper Lloyd Kazapua.
The emphatic scoreline reflects South Africa’s dominance and provides a platform to build on ahead of their remaining group games. Next up is a clash with bottom-placed Tunisia as they aim to progress to the knockout stages of this 2024 edition.
