Sottil Sacked By Udinese After Dismal Start To Serie A Season

October 24, (THEWILL) – Andrea Sottil has become the third Serie A manager to be dismissed this season after Udinese announced they had parted ways with their coach on Tuesday. Sottil had been in charge at the club since June 2022 but leaves after a dismal start to the 2023/2024 campaign, which has seen Udinese fail to win any of their opening nine league matches.

The club released a statement confirming Sottil’s departure along with his coaching staff, thanking them for their work and wishing them well for the future. Udinese currently sit 18th in Serie A, in the relegation zone after being held to a 1-1 draw by Lecce on Monday night.

Sottil joins Paulo Sousa and Paolo Zanetti in losing their job already this term, with Empoli and Salernitana respectively dispensing with their managers’ services over the past month. During his spell with Udinese, Sottil guided them to a 12th-placed finish last season, claiming notable wins over Roma and Inter Milan.

However, he was unable to build on that this campaign as the club made their worst start to a season for 85 years. Reportedly, former Udinese boss Gabriele Cioffi is set to return to the dugout as Sottil’s replacement. Cioffi previously managed the club during the 2021/2022 season before moving to Verona.

Udinese will now be hoping a change in the dugout can spark an upturn in fortunes as they bid to climb away from the drop zone in Serie A.
