BEVERLY HILLS, July 13, (THEWILL) – A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has told the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye that there would be consequence if he dared to beat up his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who represents Lagos Central.
Reports were rife that the Kogi-born lawmaker vowed to beat up Senator Tinubu during a closed-door session of the Senate on Tuesday believed to have been sparked by debate on the forgery case instituted against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, and two others.
According to the reports, trouble started when Tinubu expressed disapproval of the tactics suggested by Melaye, who was of the opinion that commencing impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari will make the Executive back down on the trial.
Reacting to the development, Asiwaju Tinubu threatened to deal with Dino Melaye if he took any untoward action against his wife, adding that from now on “it is downhill for him (Malaye)”.
The former Lagos governor spoke through his media aide, Sunday Dare, who wrote on his Twitter handle @gebusites, that: “And if Dino thinks nothing will happen if he dare beats up another Senator, then he must be living in a fools paradise”.
“Things will happen. Dino Melaye sunk to the lowest ever today.
“From this point, it is downhill for him. A disgrace to the Senate of the Republic.”
Meanwhile, Melaye has denied instigating impeachment moves against the President, calling on “the general public to discountenance the libellous publication as I will continue to respect the history, culture and excellence of my Kogi West people on the floor of the Senate.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday night, he said: “It is pertinent to note that the incredulously machinated misinformation was orchestrated by forces bent on destabilizing the upper chambers of the Nigerian Parliament for selfish reasons.
“One of the mushroom and faceless online platform used to promote the ill-fated, calumnious write-up has been notorious for serving as the propagandist machinery of political commercialists who are pushing for the extension of their fiefdom to the National Assembly.
“While I remain unimpeachably committed to the leadership of the Senate, I believe the respected arm of government charged with the onerous responsibility of law making should be given the independence to conduct its business.
“It is untrue and malicious; the narrative of the attack dogs of demagogues who have decided to turn Nigeria upside down for failing to choose leaders for Senators.”
