October 1, (THEWILL) – Roma came from behind to defeat Inter in Serie A for the first time in more than five years, courtesy of a Chris Smalling header.
At San Siro, Federico Dimarco gave Inter the lead early on, but Paulo Dybala drew level against the team he had been strongly linked with before completing his transfer to Roma this past summer.
After Hakan Calhanoglu’s fierce free-kick hit the crossbar in the second half, Smalling scored the game-winning goal to pile more misery on Simone Inzaghi’s team.
Inter have now lost three of their past four Serie A games and two in a row, falling eight points behind early leaders Napoli in the standings of the Italian top flight.
In their next game, Roma hosts Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, while Inter takes on Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
