October 13, (THEWILL) – On Monday, late DSP Alamieyeseigha’s memorial hall was filled to the rafters, as the government and elders of Ijaw land gathered to remember one of their illustrious sons, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha.

Speaking at the occasion, the Bayelsa state governor, Senator Douye Diri, described the legacies of chief DSP Alamieyeseigha as indelible and unforgettable, stressing that he laid a worthy foundation under very trying circumstances for successive governments to build the state.

Represented by his deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor stated that the Amassoma – born hero passed on at a time when the ovation was loudest, as thorough Ijaw son and a political liberator who championed the struggle for resource control and fiscal federalism in Nigeria.

The governor added that chief DSP Alamieyeseigha sacrificed himself for the first Ijaw man to become president of Nigeria through his doggedness and advocacy for the minorities to be recognized at the top echelon of national politics.

He likened the leadership qualities of Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha to that of king Solomon in the bible, stressing that his predecessor was wise enough to lay the foundation for the political, economic and educational development of the state.

He encouraged his immediate family to continue to take solace in the legacies their father bequeathed and promised to sustain the annual program in honour of the departed hero of the state and the entire Niger Delta.

“When people say DSP left offended, l always replies he was just fighting all his battles to immortalise his name as a David. He was also a Solomon because he laid the foundation upon which other governors have been building”, he said.

“He was a wise man to have established the Niger Delta University, initiated bursary, attracted foreigners to bring home investments and so he reminded one of the greatest kings to have ruled Bayelsa state. He was a Peter, who stood for resource control and stood by the gospel of resource control and he sacrificed for it”

Other dignitaries who eulogised him were the former first lady Dame Patience Jonathan, the chairman of Bayelsa state traditional rulers council, HRM Bubaraye Dakolo, the Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, Hon Commissioner of Culture and Ijaw National Affairs, Elder Erasmus Patrick, Dr Oweifie JonJon, his first son Tonbra Alamieyeseigha, Prof Steve Azaiki, member representing Yenagoa and polokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency amongst others.
