July 08, (THEWILL) – As THEWILL noted with the report of the signing of former Inter Milan player Achraf Hakimi by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, the Ligue 1 giants have confirmed the capture of legendary Real Madrid centre-back, Sergio Ramos, who has signed a two-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Since contract extension talks with the management of the Santiago Bernabeu club at Madrid fell out without a positive resolution early in the year, Ramos had put his desire for a two-year extension aside and was ready to accept Real’s insistence on a one-year deal but was told the offer had been withdrawn and it was too late.

As the THEWILL reported last month, club president, Florentino Perez told the story differently claiming in an interview to have given Ramos enough time and opportunity to sign a new contract but, when there was no response from the defender, he was forced to withdraw from the talks altogether.

The implication was that at the end of Ramos’ contract, the Spaniard became a free player with interests from clubs across Europe’s biggest leagues from Ligue 1 in Paris to the Bundesliga in Germany and even the English Premier League with the name Manchester United mentioned more often in connection with the defender.

But, the determination to bolster their squad for the upcoming season in a bid to wrest the title they lost from the grasp of Lille, PSG has been on a shopping spree and have done the smart business of getting the quality of Ramos without spending on transfer fees.

PSG paid scant attention to the noise being made of the recent poor injury record that has been Ramos’ last season where he played fewer games than he had ever done in his final two seasons in Spain. They have made the decision to add his repute to their squad and hope he will deliver as he had done over the years.

The 36-year-old completed a medical on Tuesday and has now signed a two-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2023 at the very least. As THEWILL noted, he is just the latest in a host of new faces at Parc des Princes this summer and it appears he will not be the last.

After the Euros are over, former Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma may be joining and PSG still have hopes of bringing in Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and the highly-rated Lille midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
