March 11, (THEWILL) – The Young Teranga Lions of Senegal have secured the TotalEnergies 2023 Under-20 African Cup of Nations title with a 2-0 victory over the Scorpions of Gambia in Egypt.

Just as they had done throughout the competition, the Senegalese displayed an impressive performance, dominating from the beginning and netting the first goal of the game early on through Soulemane Faye. It was the first goal Gambia conceded in the tournament.

Despite Gambia’s efforts to level the score, Senegal held on to their lead and went into the second half with a 1-nil advantage. The Gambia came out stronger in the second half, but Senegal’s solid defence prevented them from finding the back of the net.

Senegal’s backline was yet to concede and wanted to keep it that way. In the closing minutes of the game, Mamadou Camara sealed the win for the Young Teranga Lions with a goal that earned them the championship title.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Senegal, who finished the tournament without conceding a single goal throughout their campaign. They now hold the senior and U-20 AFCON titles as well as being the CHAN champions.
