Senate Confirms Appointment Of New Service Chiefs

July 13, (THEWILL) – The Senate has confirmed the appointment of new Service Chiefs, appointed by President Bola Tinubu.

The security chiefs including Major-General Christopher G Musa (Chief of Defence Staff); Major-General T.A Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff); Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Chief Naval Staff); Air Vice Marshal H. B. Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff) and Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence), were all confirmed on Thursday, at the Red Chamber.

Also confirmed were heads of Security agencies including IGP Kayode Egbetokun, as Acting Inspector-General of Police, as well as Adeniyi Adewale, as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs.

They were confirmed by a committee of the whole, following a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Michael Bamidele Opeyemi.

“That the Senate do consider the request of Mr President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the confirmation of the nomination of Service Chiefs”, he said.

Following their appointment on June 19, 2023, President Tinubu had on Tuesday, written the Senate, seeking the screening and subsequent confirmation of the new Chief of Defence Staff and service chiefs.

The request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
