Security Agencies Hunt For 72 Brigands In Kano

December 22, (THEWILL) – Security operatives are embarking on a manhunt for 72 brigands who have been unleashing mayhem in parts of the Kano metropolis, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mohammed Hussaini Gumel, has said.

Gumel disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Kano on Friday, adding that the security personnel would leave no stone unturned in arresting the criminals.

He said the hoodlums had been unleashing terror in Dala and Kurna quarters and their environs.

“By this press briefing, it is declared that all security agencies, vigilantes, PCRC and the relevant stakeholders in community policing go after them, smoke them out of their hiding places, and bring them to the police headquarters as soon as practicable.

“We are resisting dining with the devil; they are enemies of peace, and accordingly, we declare the 72 individuals the enemies of the State,” he said.

The Police Commissioner said there was no more room again for repentance for the criminals, as “some of them were tested and found not to be trusted.”

He said thuggery is now diminishing in the State, as the State Police Command had registered a total of 662 repentant thugs.

Among them, he said, were 50 who are assisting the Command as Special Constabulary, 50 serving with the Federal Fire Service as Fire Ambassadors; 25 serving with the NSCDC, and 25 serving with the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) as Sanitation Ambassadors.

Gumel also said that the Command had made several other arrests, prosecutions and recovery of significant quantities of illegal weapons and illicit drugs.

“We have also neutralised several criminal networks planning to disrupt the peace. We are determined to build on our successes and to continue with the journey for a safer and more secure environment for every citizen of the State to enjoy, especially during the Yuletide season,” the Commissioner added.
