January 02, (THEWILL) – Rising Tottenham Hotspur star, Pape Matar Sarr, has signed a new long-term contract with the North London club, it was announced on Tuesday. The 21-year-old Senegalese international midfielder has put pen to paper on a new six-year deal that will see him remain at Tottenham until 2030.
Sarr has been an integral part of manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad this season, making 18 English Premier League appearances with 16 starts. He opened his goalscoring account for Spurs in style, netting the first goal in a 2-0 home victory over Manchester United back in August. He also found the back of the net in the team’s recent 3-1 win against AFC Bournemouth.
Initially signed from French club Metz in August 2021, Sarr was immediately loaned back to continue his development in Ligue 1. He made 27 appearances for Metz last season and was part of Senegal’s victorious Africa Cup of Nations squad.
The talented young midfielder made his breakthrough at Spurs last campaign, making 14 appearances, including an impressive performance alongside Oliver Skipp against AC Milan in the Champions League.
Sarr now has 16 international caps for Senegal under his belt, including appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. After establishing himself as a key member of Tottenham’s midfield this season, the club have moved to secure his long-term future. His blend of tireless running and technical quality has made him a fan favourite at White Hart Lane.
