August 10, (THEWILL) – With the end of his Inter contract, free agent, Alexis Sanchez, has been officially signed by Ligue 1 club, Marseille.
The forward and Nerazzurri ultimately reached an agreement to sever the player’s contract on Monday, after several weeks of negotiations. Marseille stated that they had secured a deal with Sanchez, subject to a physical, after acting swiftly to sign him.
The official club statement on the signing read: “Olympique de Marseille and Alexis Sánchez have agreed on a transfer on principle. The Chilean international with 143 caps, who won 17 trophies in his career, will commit himself to Olympique in the next few hours after passing his medical tests.”
Luis Suarez scored twice for Marseille as they defeated Reims 4-1 on Sunday night to get their Ligue 1 season off to an impressive start. Wout Faes also scored an own goal, while Nuno Tavares scored a screamer on his debut to complete the rout.
