BEVERLY HILLS, February 16, (THEWILL) – Legendary bandleader, producer, and co-founder of salsa label Fania Records, Johnny Pacheco, is dead at the age of 85 years.
According to a report, the Dominican-born nine-time Grammy nominee died on Monday afternoon after he was hospitalized with pneumonia.
According to his wife, Maria Elena “Cuqui” Pacheco, who wrote on the artist’s Facebook account saying that her husband had been hospitalized in New York a few days earlier for pneumonia.
The deceased is widely known for promoting salsa in the 1960s and 70s and co- founding Fania Records with Jerry Masucci.
He is survived by his wife Cuqui Pacheco and their four children.
