June 09, (THEWILL) – Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has beaten Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne to be named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Year.
City won the English Premier League title by a point over Liverpool, but Salah took home a slew of individual honours after another outstanding season. He scored 23 Premier League goals, sharing the Golden Boot with Son Heung-min, and also won the Playmaker of the Season title for the most assists (13).
Salah also won the Premier League Goal of the Season title, as well as the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) and PFA Fans’ Player of the Year accolades.
Salah joins Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kevin De Bruyne as the eighth man to win the PFA award twice. Aside De Bruyne, Salah’s teammates Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane, as well as Harry Kane and Ronaldo were also in the running for the accolade, with Tottenham’s Son being curiously left out.
