February 01, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have added to their midfield options for the remainder of the season with the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich.
Sabitzer, a 28-year-old Austria international, joined the club after an injury to Christian Eriksen, which will keep the Denmark player out of action until April. Sabitzer was a last-minute target for United, with manager Erik ten Hag originally stating the club did not require a late addition to the squad.
However, the availability of Sabitzer led to a change in approach, with the player completing a move to Old Trafford. Sabitzer, who joined Bayern from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig ahead of the 2021-22 season, has made 40 appearances for the Bundesliga champions, but only 15 of those have been as a starter.
United’s director, John Murtough, expressed his delight at the new signing, saying that Sabitzer had the “ability and character” to make an impact at the club. Sabitzer was excited at the opportunity to join Manchester United, saying he was “at his peak as a player” and was eager to help the club achieve its aims for the season.
He may make his debut for United in their English Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday, but will not feature in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
