May 6, (THEWILL)- As the game of rugby continues gaining traction across Nigeria, TurboCrest Sports is doing its part to promote the sport through unique beach events. In a recent interview, Olatunbosun Kobina Johnson, CEO of TurboCrest Sports, reflected on their Easter Sandy Beach rugby tournament, which was held at Tarkwa Bay and looked ahead to upcoming plans.
Johnson expressed gratitude to the sponsors who supported the Easter event. “Our sincere thanks go to Maritime Nigeria LTD, Whassan Nigeria LTD, Nido Singapore chapter, Famboss Nigeria LTD, and Kts Oil and Gas LTD. Without their generous support, the Easter tournament could not have been the success that it was.”
The Easter competition saw four teams – Wolverines Rugby Academy, Eco II, Gosar, and Aguda Grammar School – battling in a round-robin format. Eco II emerged victorious, defending their title for an impressive third consecutive year. Gosar claimed second place, followed by Wolverines in third and Aguda Grammar School rounding out the teams.
However, the action was not just limited to the rugby pitch. A “Sexiest Man on the Beach” pageant crowned Steven Kiki the winner, while Veronica took home the “Miss Bikini Bottom” title in an entertaining side event.
TurboCrest Sports has created a unique space by hosting annual Christmas and Easter beach rugby events at Tarkwa Bay. As Johnson looked to the future, he issued a call for more corporate backing. “We’re already preparing for the 12th edition scheduled for December and need more corporate bodies to come on board to support the continued growth of rugby in Nigeria through these beach tournaments.”
While the Easter event is now in the rearview mirror, TurboCrest’s efforts to feature the sport in a beach setting could pay dividends by exposing rugby to new audiences and potential sponsors in the years to come. If corporate support grows for these innovative beachside competitions, Nigeria’s rugby popularity could rise to even greater heights.
