June 02, (THEWILL) – An official confirmation of Antonio Rudiger’s exit from former UEFA Champions League winners, Chelsea, to join current champions, Real Madrid, has finally been issued by Chelsea and the La Liga champions.
The German defender joined the English Premier League team from Roma in 2017 and quickly established himself as a defensive pillar, as well as a leader in the dressing room. Rudiger was instrumental in the team’s victories in the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
However, with contract extension talks stalling and the uncertainty over the club’s ownership, Rudiger decided it was time to move on. The centre back was linked with moves to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and German champions, Bayern Munich, before deciding on Real.
The no-option four-year contract will see the 29-year-old join a central defensive unit that includes veterans David Alaba and Eder Militao, as well as Nacho Fernandez, as Real’s first signing of the summer. So far, Isco, Marcelo and Gareth Bale have left on free transfers.
