March 28, (THEWILL) – Ex-Manchester United legend and Derby County boss, Wayne Rooney, has challenged Marcus Rashford to pull his “head out of his a**e” and break the United goal record that he (Rooney) set.
Rashford was rising through the ranks at Old Trafford as Rooney’s stint at the club was coming to an end, and after an unbelievable start to his career, many were tipping the Manchester-born kid to break the club’s all-time scoring record.
That honour, still held by Rooney, amounts to 253 goals during Englishman’s stint with the Red Devils under the distinguished guidance of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rashford, on the other hand, has struggled this season, scoring only five goals in 26 games in all competitions. His rage recently erupted during United’s Champions League elimination to Atletico Madrid, where he battled with fans as he attempted to board the club bus.
There are signs that Rashford is thinking about his future at the club, ahead of a probable summer departure, which Rooney believes would be a terrible mistake for the player.
“To get the record and be Manchester United’s highest goal scorer, it is f***ing massive”, Rooney said.
“But I hope the record is broken. What I hope is that Marcus Rashford f***ing gets his head out of his a**e and goes and breaks that record. He’s a Manchester lad.”
