Rolling Stones Returns With Album After 18 Years

September 7, (THEWILL) – The Rolling Stones, one of the most popular and enduring band, formed in the rock era, is set to release an album ‘Hackney Diamonds’, after taking a break for 18 years.

‘Hackney Diamond’, is the first original album the band will be releasing since 2005 and the first since they lost their drummer, Charlie Watts, who played on two of the tracks.

Watts died in 2021, just before the band’s 60th anniversary tour. He died after battling throat cancer.

The album, which has 12 tracks, would be released in October, but it will be preceded by their single, ‘Angry’, which featured actress, Sydney Sweeney.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, founding members of the 61-year-old band, appeared on stage at the London theatre to discuss about the new album.

According to Jagger, the band was inspired to record new music.

“Every day was kind of like banging through two or three songs, so you keep the excitement,” he told Reuters.

“The album has a contemporary sound, with a mixture of rock, ballads, dance and a country-ish kind of thing”, he said.

Richards, whose song-writing partnership with Jagger is one of the most enduring and successful in rock, said Watts’s 2021 death had spurred the band to record new music.

“I think because of Charlie’s passing, we felt that we are still going and that we should still retain an identity and still say ‘Hey, it’s only rock and roll’. But you know, here we are”.

Former Stones bass player, Bill Wyman, new drummer, Steve Jordan, ex-Beatle member, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder were all involved in the album.

Wood said McCartney, who played bass on one track, was blown away to record with the band, which rivalled the Beatles in its impact on rock music in the 1960s.
