BEVERLY HILLS, February 09, (THEWILL) – In the wake of rumours during the January transfer window about Super Eagles’ Captain and free agent, Ahmed Musa, being on the radar of West Bromwich Albion, hopes rose that the Nigerian would finally have his dreams fulfilled and return to action in the English Premier League.

Disappointingly, however, and although West Brom coach Sam Allardyce gave confirmation of their interest in the pacy 28-year-old (whose speed they needed to get them the type of results they badly needed to attain the ace sweat merchant’s mission of keeping his team in the premiership), the window shut without Musa inking papers for his move to the club.

But, now, Super Eagles’ coach Gernot Rohr has reignited the hopes of fans wishing to see Musa excel in the EPL, after his disappointment with Leicester City. The German said he expected the transfer to materialise in the next few days.

His optimism is based on the fact that last Thursday, Musa proved his fitness to West Brom’s Sports Science and Performance team at the Training Centre in Walsall.

The relegation-battling league club is also cash-strapped, a problem that had proven to be their Achilles Heel. For them to provide the funds to acquire Musa, for instance, the club management need to bankroll finance it out of pocket or see through the imminent transfer of Polish winger, Kamil Grosicki, to the Polish side, Legia Warsaw, in the Ekstraklasa.

Rohr provided the update on the proposed Musa transfer while speaking with Super Eagles TV saying: “We are in touch with our Captain, he is in the United Kingdom now. It’s not so easy to change during the season but he is free to sign where he wants and there’s no obligation to respect the transfer window for him because he was free already.

“I am very hopeful that he can sign in the next days, he wanted to come back to Europe and to play in England; so it’s not easy during the season. But I’m hopeful that he can sign in the club, it’s very important that everybody is playing in their clubs.

“It’s a long time that he didn’t play, I think since October, so he needs now to come back in the rhythm of the matches.”

Musa is expected to sign a short-term deal that will see him at West Bromwich for the remainder of the 2020/2021 season with the option of an extension towards next season.
