October 06 , (THEWILL) – The intense football rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is set to continue in the CAF Confederations Cup this season after Rivers United and Dreams were drawn together in Group C on Friday.
Former African champions Club Africain of Tunisia and newcomers Academica Lobito of Angola complete the four-team group following the draw made in Johannesburg.
The first matches are scheduled for November 26 with the final round being played on March 3. The top two teams in each group will progress to the quarter-finals.
Rivers knocked out Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in the final qualifying round, with Alex Oyowah scoring the decisive goal in the 89th minute of the second leg. Earlier in Port Harcourt, the Nigerians had missed two penalties and struggled to break the 10-man opposition.
Confederation Cup debutants Dreams also endured some nervous moments before booking their place in the last 16, the African equivalent of the Europa League. They are hoping to emulate compatriots Hearts of Oak, winners of the inaugural final in 2004.
