May 7, (THEWILL)- Victor Osimhen’s header appeared to have handed Napoli all three points against relegation-battling Udinese on Monday night, however, compatriot Isaac Success bundled in a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for the hosts in Serie A.
Osimhen nodded Napoli ahead in the 51st minute, heading home Matteo Politano’s cross from the right. The Nigerian thought he had doubled the lead in the 80th minute only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. That proved costly as Udinese substitute Success pounced in the dying seconds, turning in Thomas Kristensen’s header to snatch a point.
The result leaves Napoli in eighth place on 51 points, nine points adrift of the European places occupied by Atalanta and Roma. For Osimhen, it continues his impressive streak of scoring in six consecutive matches against Udinese, the third Napoli player to achieve such a feat in the three-points-for-a-win era.
While earning a point prevented a third straight defeat, Udinese’s struggles persisted. They have now failed to win any of their last three matches under their new manager, their worst run since August-September 2010 under Francesco Guidolin.
