BEVERLY HILLS, SEPTEMBER 09, (THEWILL) – Team Nigeria has won its first medal at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic games, after three days of the competition, as Latifat Tijani, a power lifter, clinched the Silver medal in the women’s 45kg Power lifting event.

Tijani, who entered the competition at 101kg, made a bright start, lifting 101kg to smash the earlier existing Paralympics record.

However, China’s Dandan Hu set a new one of 102kg leading to an intense competition between the duo.

Glo

Hu won the gold medal with a new World and Paralympics record of 108.0kg while Tijani lifted 106kg to come second.

Great Britain’s Zoe Newson finished behind Tijani to win bronze.

THEWILL recalls that Nigeria could only garner a bronze medal at the main Rio Olympic event as the Dream Team IV clinched the bronze medal, only a few days to the end of the games, in the male football event.
