BEVERLY HILLS, June 27, (THEWILL) – Justice Adebukola Bankoke of the FCT High Court in Gudu has dismissed an application for bail filed by a former Governor of Taraba State, Reverend Jolly Nyame, who she convicted on multiple counts of fraud and misappropriation of state monies and subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Nyame, who had been in prison since his sentence last month, had sought bail on medical grounds pending the determination of the appeal of his conviction.
More than a dozen former Nigerian state governors have been indicted and are being tried for corruption without much success, as the cases often remain in courts for years, because of their deep pockets and weak institutions.
