September 23, (THEWILL) – Red Bull Racing has made a significant decision about its future by retaining Isack Hadjar alongside Max Verstappen for the 2027 Formula 1 season, rewarding the young driver’s impressive debut campaign with the team.
The announcement completes Red Bull’s senior driver line-up for next season, with Verstappen already committed to the team until the end of 2030.
Hadjar’s contract extension also allows him to build on his progress rather than face the uncertainty that has surrounded the second Red Bull seat in recent years.
Hadjar Earns Second Red Bull Season
Hadjar stepped up to Red Bull at the beginning of the 2026 season after spending his rookie campaign with the sister Racing Bulls team in 2025.
He immediately demonstrated his potential by qualifying third at the Australian Grand Prix, before establishing himself as a consistent points scorer.
According to Red Bull, Hadjar has recorded seven consecutive top-six finishes, with his first podium for the team in Monaco representing the standout moment of his season so far.
His performances helped him secure eighth place in the drivers’ championship before a wrist injury forced him to miss the last three races.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised the Frenchman’s development and attitude since joining the senior team.
“Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season,” Mekies said. He added that extending Hadjar’s contract was an easy decision for the team.

The decision is particularly notable given the challenges faced by several drivers who have partnered Verstappen at Red Bull.
Pierre Gasly was replaced by Alex Albon after 12 races, while Albon lost his seat at the end of the 2020 season.
Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda also experienced changes to their positions around the senior and junior teams, while Sergio Perez remained Verstappen’s teammate from 2021 to 2024 and secured five race victories during that period.
Hadjar’s performances have now convinced Red Bull to provide him with a second full season alongside the four-time world champion.
His contract extension offers continuity as the team works to strengthen its competitive position.
Hadjar Set for Azerbaijan Return
Hadjar is expected to return to racing at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix after recovering from his wrist injury.
During his absence, Liam Lawson temporarily replaced him at Red Bull, while Yuki Tsunoda moved back into the reserve role.
Hadjar’s comeback will give him an opportunity to resume his campaign and demonstrate that his early-season form was no temporary breakthrough. For now, Red Bull has made its position clear: the Frenchman remains part of the team’s plans for 2027.
