August 03, (THEWILL) – Gabriel Slonina, a skilled American goalkeeper, has been officially signed by Chelsea from MLS team Chicago Fire, with the 18-year-old signing a six-year contract, but remaining on loan to Fire for the remaining months of the year.
The two clubs agreed on a price for the goalkeeper, who had previously drawn interest from clubs like Real Madrid in recent months. The transfer is thought to have cost roughly $15 million, setting a record for an American goalie.
Slonina is the fourth player the Blues have brought in this summer, joining Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Carney Chukwuemeka. Surprisingly, Chukwuemeka’s deal to Stamford Bridge was announced earlier on Tuesday after the player travelled to London for a club physical.
Along with these additions, Chelsea is also getting closer to signing Marc Cucurella after agreeing to match Brighton’s value of the wing-back at £50 million.
