Rebuilding Bama To Gulp N3.5 billion, Says Lawmaker

SAN FRANCISCO, August 25, (THEWILL) – The member representing Bama area of Borno State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdurrahman Terab, has stated that rebuilding Bama, which was destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents, would gulp a whopping N3.5 billion.

Terab, who represents Bama/Dikwa/Gamboru-Ngala in the House of Representatives, told journalists on Sunday that with the magnitude of destruction, the state government cannot be left alone with the task of rebuilding the town.

While pleading with the federal government to assist in rebuilding the town, he said the work involved is so massive and will eat up a great chunk of the resources of the state.

The Borno State Government, according to him, was already burdened with the task of reconstruction in so many parts as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The now desolate town with dilapidated buildings used to be a bubbling commercial town before it was attacked thrice by Boko Haram gunmen, who killed over 100 persons and destroyed property worth billions of Naira .

Hitherto seen as one of the most populated towns in Borno State with over 500,000 persons, Bama now lies in ruins with few thousands residents as residents continue to flee in droves.

All roads leading to the town was also closed for over a month following a major attack by Boko Haram on security installations in the town during which 55 persons, mostly policemen were killed.

The lawmaker however disclosed that life is gradually returning to the town with the market which was closed for a long period now opened and traders allowed to trade without fear.
