May 24, (THEWILL) – AC Milan are targeting Paulo Fonseca as their top choice to become the club’s new manager, according to exclusive reports. The Italian giants parted ways with Stefano Pioli on Friday, after another trophy-less campaign.
The Rossoneri have been impressed with Fonseca’s style of play and impressive statistics during his two-year stint at Lille. Milan have reportedly cooled their interest in Porto’s Sergio Conceicao to focus solely on the Portuguese tactician.
Fonseca enjoyed a previous spell in Serie A with Roma between 2019 and 2021. Negotiations are ongoing regarding the terms of a potential contract, with the 50-year-old seeking assurances over the club’s long-term project.
While Fonseca also has an offer to extend his stay at Lille, as well as interest from Marseille, AC Milan appears to be his preferred destination. An announcement on Milan’s new managerial appointment is expected in the coming weeks.
The seven-time European champions currently sit second in Serie A, 19 points behind league leaders and city rivals Inter Milan with just one game remaining.
