BEVERLY HILLS, May 14, (THEWILL) – La Liga title holders Real Madrid have announced that German player Toni Kroos is currently in isolation due to COVID-19 protocol operative at the club. They made the announcement through their website, in a post that said:
“Real Madrid C. F. reports that our player Toni Kroos is currently in isolation after being in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, although all tests carried out on the player have come back negative.”
Though the midfielder returned negative results, Real’s COVID-19 protocols mean Kroos will be unavailable against Athletic Bilbao this weekend, in a must-win fixture for Los Blancos. It is unfortunate because Zinedine Zidane allowed the midfielder some rest when Madrid faced Granada this Thursday, expecting to feature him fully against Bilbao.
There are two outstanding matches for Real this season but they are very important in the title chase as they continue to put league leaders Atletico Madrid under pressure, ready to jump ahead if ever Diego Simeone’s side makes any slip.
It is unclear if Kroos will join the team in this chase. If not, Zidane’s charges will forge ahead without his significant input, which they have shown to be equally capable of pulling off.
