December 20, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid lost the chance to reclaim their eight-point advantage at the top of the table and Eden Hazard failed to make the most of a rare La Liga start in a goalless draw against Cadiz on Sunday.
Despite a handful of COVID-19 incidents at the Santiago Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were heavy favourites to win against the relegation-threatened visitors, but Cadiz fought hard for a share of the points.
Hazard was a peripheral figure in a dull first half that saw few opportunities produced. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior posed a threat in the penalty area, but Cadiz held firm in the first half.
In the second half, Real Madrid increased the tempo of their play, with Vinicius being particularly energetic. Ancelotti boosted his attack with the addition of Luka Jovic from the bench, but there was still no breakthrough.
When the final whistle went, Real Madrid had moved six points clear of second-placed Sevilla, who beat Atletico Madrid on Saturday to boost their title aspirations.
