March 16, (THEWILL) – Marcus Rashford’s goal helped Manchester United advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a 1-0 victory over Real Betis.
With the aggregate score standing at 4-1 following the first leg at Old Trafford, the Spanish side started strong in hopes of making a comeback. However, United weathered the storm and took control of the game in the second half.
Betis had their moments in the first half, with chances from Ayoze Perez coming close. Juanmi missed a good opportunity to score when he went through but was denied by David de Gea. Meanwhile, United’s Facundo Pellistri hit the post with a shot that almost gave his side the lead just before halftime.
In the second half, Rashford scored the only goal of the game with a powerful strike from 25 yards out. United continued to dominate, while Betis struggled to create clear chances. With the tie effectively over, both teams turned their attention to their upcoming domestic fixtures.
United’s next match is in the FA Cup against Fulham on Sunday, while Real Betis will host Mallorca in La Liga on the same day.
