March 13, (THEWILL) – Raphinha’s first half goal secured Barcelona’s victory over Athletic Club in their La Liga match at San Mames Barria.
The Brazilian scored in added time, just before half time, to give Barca the lead. Despite some attempts from Athletic, including a disallowed goal, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Barcelona had several chances to score in the first half, with Ferran Torres coming close within the first two minutes of the game. Sergio Busquets also attempted a shot, but it went just over the crossbar. Athletic fought back, creating two good chances in the first half, with Inaki Williams forcing a save from Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The second half saw fewer opportunities for both sides. Robert Lewandowski came closest for Barcelona and Athletic created a few chances of their own towards the end of the game. However, it was not enough to secure a goal, with Barca ultimately winning 1-0.
The win sets up a big game for Barcelona next Sunday, as they face off against Real Madrid in the final Clasico of the season, while Athletic will play Real Valladolid on Friday.
