September 4, (THEWILL) – Football legend, Sergio Ramos, has returned home to continue his illustrious playing career with his first club, Sevilla, after turning down interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The 37-year-old veteran defender has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expired over the summer. He spent two years in France, making 58 appearances and winning Ligue 1 twice.
Born and raised in Seville, Ramos first broke into the senior team in 2004, aged 19, before joining Real Madrid the following year. Sevilla have now confirmed their want-away son is back after 16 trophy-laden years at the Bernabeu.
Ramos actively rejected a lucrative offer to move to Saudi Arabia, despite former Madrid teammate, Karim Benzema, trying to persuade him to join Al Ittihad. As a free agent, he was not bound by Friday’s transfer deadline.
With the window closing, Ramos was offered around to several elite clubs needing defensive reinforcements, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. However, his high salary demands meant no formal offers were made. And, he decided to go back to where it all began.
