October 6, (THEWILL) – Chief Ralph Obioha, a Nigerian elder statesman, political leader and businessman, has died at the age of 80.

His family announced his death in a statement signed by his son, Chima Obioha, saying he died on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

According to the statement obtained by THEWILL, Obioha, who held the traditional title of Okpuruisizuruoha II of Arondizuogu, was known for his involvement in Nigeria’s political, business and socio-economic affairs over the years.

The family described him as a patriot and elder statesman whose life cut across several business sectors and the country’s political landscape.

It was gathered that Obioha remained committed to Nigeria’s development and was an advocate of public service, leadership and nation-building.

“His was a respected voice in the land, and he was a firm believer in Nigeria’s enormous potential,” the family said.

Beyond his public life, the family remembered Obioha as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, highlighting his generosity, faith and commitment to his family.

His death adds to the loss of a figure whose activities spanned both Nigeria’s business community and political space.

In announcing his death, the family said it had already received condolence messages and prayers from Nigerians and others following news of his passing.

It thanked those who had reached out but appealed for privacy as family members mourn the late elder statesman.

“The family is deeply grateful for the prayers, condolence messages, and expressions of love that have already been received,” the statement said, adding that it was seeking privacy while coming to terms with the loss.

The family did not disclose the cause of Obioha’s death.

It also said arrangements for his burial had not yet been finalised, adding that details of memorial and funeral activities would be announced later.

The statement was issued in Enugu on behalf of the Obioha family by his son, Chima.
