BEVERLY HILLS, May 30, (THEWILL) – In an unfortunate set of circumstances, the death has been announced of the Swiss MotoGP rider Jason Dupasquier, who died following a three-bike crash in the qualifying round for the Italian Grand Prix.
The crash occurred as the 19-year old was struck by another bike on Saturday after falling and sliding along the track, requiring lengthy treatment on the spot at the Mugello Circuit.
He was then airlifted to a Florence hospital following the incident for further treatment.
However, in a statement on Sunday morning, the MotoGP announced the Dupasquier had sadly died from his accident. The statement read: “Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and all those subsequently attending to the Swiss rider, the hospital has announced that Dupasquier has sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The FIM, IRTA, MSMA and Dorna Sports pass on our deepest condolences to Dupasquier’s family, friends, team and loved ones.”
It is a profoundly sad occurrence for the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the International Road-Racing Teams Association (IRTA), the Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers Association (MSMA) and Dorna Sports, organisers of the FIM Road Racing World Championships Grand Prix (MotoGP) as Dupasquier was a promising young rider with so much potential and at the onset of a brilliant career.
