November 24, (THEWILL) – Gareth Southgate has confirmed that England team captain, Harry Kane, will be able to participate in the country’s World Cup encounter against the USA on Friday night.
THEWILL recalls that in the second half of Monday’s 6-2 triumph over Iran, Kane, who has 51 goals in 76 appearances for England, took an injury to his ankle and required to be checked medically for fitness.
Following a scan on Wednesday, Southgate stated that the Tottenham striker would be fit to participate in England’s second Group B match at the Al Bayt Stadium. Southgate said: “Harry is fine, he has worked slightly separately from the group but all good for Friday night. He had a scan [on Wednesday] to make sure everything is fine.”
Harry Maguire, who was also substituted on Monday, is now much better, Southgate added. “He was feeling ill and that was affecting his vision. You worry about concussion in that instant, but we were going back through all the footage and there is nothing, so he is in a good area.”
If England defeats the USA in the Group B second match on Friday, the Three Lions will qualify for the next round.
